AT A GLANCE

Friday is the easy outdoor night. Saturday is the keep-the-radar-open day—mushrooms and Twin Lakes if the weather cooperates, reptiles in Monroeville if it doesn’t. Sunday looks warmer with only a slight shower chance, but the Steelers home opener means Pittsburgh traffic will still be in full chaos mode.

WORTH LEAVING THE HOUSE FOR

🦎 PITTSBURGH MEGA REPTILE EXPO
Saturday & Sunday · Monroeville Convention Center

More than 300 tables of reptiles, exotic pets, supplies, talks, and hands-on experiences. This is the rare Monroeville event worth the drive—especially if your kid can turn seeing one snake into a 45-minute conversation.

🍄 MUSHROOM HUNTING AT HANNA’S TOWN
Saturday, 1–3 p.m. · Greensburg · $10 / $8 for members

Walk the wooded trails with pocket journals and learn how to spot and record local fungi. Close, hands-on, and way more memorable than another lap around the usual playground.

🎸 FREE CONCERT AT TWIN LAKES
Saturday, 6:30–10 p.m. · Twin Lakes Park · Free

Rust Valley Revival at 6:30, then The Hawkeyes at 8:30. Bring chairs or a blanket—and check the radar before committing to the lawn.

🍽️ GREENSBURG RESTAURANT WEEK
Now through Sunday · Prices vary

The easy date-night answer: pick a special menu downtown, call it an outing, and let somebody else handle the dishes.

🛍️ ANTIQUES & COLLECTIBLES MARKET
Sunday · Historic Hanna’s Town · $5 per car

Antiques, folk art, historical crafts, and enough oddball finds to keep the browsing interesting. It runs rain or shine.

WORTH THE DRIVE

☘️ Pittsburgh Irish Festival — Friday through Sunday at Carrie Blast Furnaces. Music, dancing, food, history, and family programming in a genuinely great setting.

🌮 Pittsburgh Taco Festival — Saturday, 12:30–7 p.m. in the Strip District. More than 25 taco vendors, live music, dancing, face painting, and games. Admission is $5; tacos cost extra.

HEADS UP 🚧

🏈 Steelers home opener: Pittsburgh hosts Atlanta at 1 p.m. Sunday. If you are not going to the game, avoid casually routing through the North Shore before or after it.

The Irish Festival and Reptile Expo will also bring heavier traffic around Carrie Furnace Boulevard and the Monroeville Convention Center.

MAKE A STOP

Statler’s Fun Center — Mini golf, go-karts, batting cages, and an arcade in Greensburg. A solid backup if the Saturday shower arrives right when everyone already has shoes on.

🍦 Millie’s Homemade Ice Cream — Downtown Greensburg, open until 10 Friday and Saturday. No sponsorship here—just a strategically useful bribe on the way home.
